Be a Spartan

At Michigan State University, Spartans are united by our purpose to make the world a better place. To us, an education is more than a frame on the wall, it’s about connecting with your purpose and being a catalyst for positive change. The key to creating a better world is a diverse and inclusive community and the understanding that, while our differences can be challenging, they also make us stronger. We have several offices, groups and taskforces on campus dedicated to supporting Spartans and creating a more inclusive and equitable community. For example, the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions helps form supportive social and educational communities that actively involve students in learning by bringing together individuals and groups from diverse racial, ethnic, international and domestic backgrounds. While no one can know what the future holds, you can be sure that Spartans will be there, working together to find meaningful solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems for a better tomorrow for everyone. Join us and be a part of Generation Will.

Resources
Our core values are based on the beliefs that inclusion happens only when the whole campus and community sees it as their responsibility, and that you can’t have true excellence without inclusion. As an institution, our core purpose is to advance and inspire a diverse and inclusive MSU campus community in which all members can excel and feel safe and supported. Through our different offices, groups and taskforces on campus, we work to support and bring together individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, international and domestic backgrounds and more. The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center leads and collaborates on university-wide initiatives that enhance campus climate and academic and support services for students who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and/or transsexual and their communities. Also, we are dedicated to providing financial aid to as many incoming Spartans as possible. Need-based aid, merit-based scholarships and thousands of student employment opportunities also help make the high-quality Spartan education more affordable.

Life as a Spartan
We may be a Big Ten campus, but we make sure Spartans receive high-quality, personal support. Your Neighborhood Engagement Center is a unique space serving as your hub for tutors, advisers, health practitioners, and other consultants that can help you navigate through your college career and also support your wellness and health. The Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives helps students access the many programs and services that promote and support diversity and inclusion at MSU. In addition to Big Ten sports, MSU’s intramural sports and fitness program—one of the largest in the nation—makes it easy for all Spartans to stay active and healthy. MSU offers a variety of healthy food options at all campus residential dining halls and retail food venues, supporting a range of diets. MSU also has more than 900 student clubs and organizations, so you can easily explore your passions, have fun and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
